A promotional video for the Odyssey3 Command Center, shown at the 1983 Consumer Electronics Show, included footage of Killer Bees with enhanced background graphics. In the footage, the playfield is surrounded by blue borders and red bars, but the area where the actual game action takes place has a black background, as does the released (NTSC) version of the game. When Killer Bees + was eventually released in Europe, its background featured a more ornate – but visually distracting – beige honeycomb design. For that reason, many Killer Bees fans longed to try it with the Odyssey3 graphics. Unfortunately, while prototypes of Odyssey3 Killer Bees have been discovered, none had the same background graphics as the promo video. It's not known if the video showed a real working game demo, or was simulated footage.
